How bidding, closing, paying and pickup work here — and how to reach us when something is not right.
How bidding works
Every bid is per item. On a lot of several, the lot page shows the total you would owe.
Set a maximum and we bid for you. Enter the most you would pay. We bid only as much as it takes to keep you in front, up to that figure — and we do it the instant somebody else bids, which no finger can match.
You are told when you are outbid — on the site, and by push or email if you have them switched on.
Bids cannot be taken back. A bid is a promise to buy at that price if you win.
The full rules are in the terms of sale, and you accept them once per sale before your first bid.
How a sale closes
Each lot has its own closing time, shown on the lot. Many sales close one lot at a time, a minute or so apart, in lot order.
Late bids extend the clock. A bid in the last 5 minutes of a lot moves its close out by 5 minutes, for everyone — so nobody wins by the bell, and the other bidder always gets a turn.
In a sale that closes one lot at a time, a bid on the lot closing next adds 10 seconds to that lot — and every lot after it waits the same time, so the lot you are bidding on stays on screen until it sells, and the next one follows.
A bid sent in the last second still counts. We accept bids for 2 seconds after the clock reads zero, because the delay is the network, not you — and a bid that lands then extends the lot like any other late bid.
Following a sale live
When a sale starts closing, a “Follow the sale live” link appears on the sale's page. It opens one screen that follows the sale lot by lot: the lot closing now, its clock, one button to bid, and every lot still to come.
The lot closing now and the one after it are bid on from that screen; every other lot can be bid on anywhere, any time until it closes.
Sales called by an auctioneer run on their own live page, and a lot that is up next there is closed for a moment until the auctioneer opens it.
Look it over at pickup. Everything sells as-is, where-is, and all sales are final — please check your items when you collect them and raise anything with staff before you leave.
A concern about something you won — use Report a problem on that invoice rather than a general message. Pick the lot, say what happened and add photos; it goes straight to the right people.

Every report and message gets a case number straight away, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
